CinéWilde Presents: Y Tu Mama Tambien – 35mm
Even though it’s winter here in Texas, grab your sun hat, dancing sandals, and shot glasses because CinéWilde is taking you to the beach in our screening of the delightfully naughty 2001 road trip movie “Y Tu Mama Tambien”.
Directed by Academy Award-winning Alfonso Cuaron (director of Gravity, Children of Men, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), “Y Tu Mama Tambie” follows Julio (Gael García Bernal) and Tunoch (Diego Luna), two young friends who take a drug and sex-fueled road trip to a beach called Boca de Cielo (Heaven’s Mouth) with an alluring woman, Luisa (Maribel Verdú); but what happens when these carefree, weed-smoking playboys fall for the same woman?
The film’s explicit depictions of drugs and sexuality helped give it the highest box office opening in Mexican cinema history as well as a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the Academy Awards and a Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the Golden Globes.
We’ll talk with Hispanic activists about Hispanic LGBTQ media before the film, and afterwards, we’ll host a Spanish pop and tapas party to keep you dancing all night long!
