This year's BLEAK WEEK: CINEMA OF DESPAIR has expanded its vision to multiple continents. The festival begins JUNE 5th, stretching over 73 cities worldwide making it a global expression of bleakness, including almost 100 theaters in the United States alone. We begin our unraveling with a double feature at TX Theatre presenting ON THE SILVER GLOBE, ANDRZEJ ZULAWSKI's surrealist masterpiece, followed by CLAIRE DENIS' TROUBLE EVERY DAY. This double feature may give a sense of what's to come this week as award winning staples like BREAKING THE WAVES and LEAVING LAS VEGAS share space with A PLACE BEYOND THE PINES from DEREK CIANFRANCE on 35MM! Come this weekend another double feature option for BLEAKERS is hosted by director JOHN HILLCOAT who will present his own two films THE PROPOSITION written by NICK CAVE and THE ROAD, (on 35MM!) based on the CORMAC MCCARTHY book. He'll stick around to intro his favorite of the week AU HASARD BALTHAZAR and regale his own proclivities toward CINEMA OF DESPAIR. As the festival reaches its apex, we'll feature a few exclusive treats with a restored 4K of WATERSHIP DOWN and the rare studio bleakness THEY SHOOT HORSES DON'T THEY? featuring an absolutely stunning performance by JANE FONDA with an ensemble cast of heavy hitters in the week's finale. We're in this together now, bleakers...so dive into the deep end and grab a series pass HERE!! But before we begin, come check out PAUL SLAVENS live score of THE UNKOWN tonite on film! See you soon!- JR
